What is Microdermabrasion?
Advanced Anti-Aging & Weight Loss offers microdermabrasion to rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of the skin. It stimulates collagen, helps with elasticity, and reduces the appearance of fine lines.
Microdermabrasion delivers excellent exfoliation of the outer layer of your skin in a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure with no downtime. Some of the most common areas that we can treat include the face, neck and chest. By removing the outer layer of dead cells to expose the fresher skin beneath, microdermabrasion at Advanced Anti-Aging & Weight Loss gives your skin new vibrancy and a healthy glow.
Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Treatment?
Microdermabrasion at Advanced Anti-Aging & Weight Loss is a great option for patients with fine facial lines or wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, clogged pores, skin texture issues, or minor acne scarring. It can improve rosacea and acne. People with all skin tones can benefit from this skin care treatment. But it is a non-invasive procedure, so it isn’t the answer for deep creases or folds, or issues of skin laxity.
The treatment normally takes between 20 and 45 minutes, although time varies depending upon the area being treated. Microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to exfoliate the outer layer of the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer. A hand-piece is used to spray the crystals onto the treatment area. They are simultaneously vacuumed away, along with the dead skin cells and impurities removed by the procedure. The degree of exfoliation in a microdermabrasion procedure depends on the amount of suction employed by the hand-piece, along with the number of passes made over the skin surface.
Microdermabrasion only targets the outermost layer of your epidermis, and patients don’t require any topical anesthesia. Some patients equate the feeling to that of a facial massage, others say they feel a slight warming sensation as the crystals gently abrade the old, damaged outer layer of skin.
How Often Should You Have a Microdermabrasion Treatment?
You’ll see a more vibrant appearance after just a single microdermabrasion session, but a series of four treatments really exfoliates away dead, dull skin. These sessions should be spaced at two to three week intervals. From there, maintenance sessions every month or two keep your skin looking great.
Immediate results can be seen after the first treatment. Although results are immediate, we recommend that patients have a series of sessions in order to receive optimal results. Your skin’s tone, color, and vibrancy will improve. Your skin will look softer, and have improved texture. As you continue with additional sessions, these results will build upon each session. As long as you opt for maintenance sessions, you will maintain your results indefinitely, as you’ll continue to slough off the dead skin cells and other impurities that build up on your skin’s surface.
Are There Any Potential Side Effects?
Microdermabrasion doesn’t have any risks or side effects. It can be classified as a “lunchtime procedure” because patients can return to work immediately after. The exfoliation returns a fresh, healthy glow to the skin. Plus, since the procedure uses non-allergenic crystals, it’s excellent even for those with sensitive skin. After your session, you’ll need to protect your new skin from sun exposure by using sunscreen with an SPF of 30.
Clients may experience some irritation or slight pink coloration immediately after treatment, but the effects generally subside in about 15-20 minutes.
